Ordination of Reverend Deacon J. Wesley Evans

The Ordination of James Wesley Evans to the Sacred Order of Priests was performed by the Rt. Reverend James M. Stanton, Bishop of the Diocese of Dallas on April 3, 1913 at Holy Nativity Church in Plano TX.

Fr. Evans has become a major and popular addition to Holy Nativity and a sizable contingent of the Holy Nativity Parish was in attendance to show support and witness to his entrance into the Priesthood.

A reception was held afterwards in the Parish Hall.

Congratulations to Fr. Wesley and his lovely wife Alicia on their journey in service to Christ!

Next Brotherhood of St. Andrew Meeting – 4/13/13

The next meeting of The Brotherhood of St. Andrew is scheduled for 4/13/13 in the Parish Hall. We will be continuing our study of Kyle Idleman’s – Gods at War.

Breakfast will be served at 8:30AM.

All men are invited, both in and out of the parish.

Easter Brunch – 2013

A large crowd showed up for our annual Easter Brunch held between services on March 31. Great fellowship plus an Easter Egg hunt for the kids afterwards lifted spirits on our Most Holy Sunday.

Fr. Garrin Places In Bluebonnet Brew-off

Congratulations to our own Father Garrin Dickinson and Father JD Brown of Holy Trinity Garland for their 3rd place finish in the Bluebonnet Brew-off. Father Garrin and Father JD competed as the Padres with their Doppleganger brew.

The Bluebonnet Brew-off is the largest single site homebrew competition in the United States. More information is available at the Bluebonnet Brew-off website.

Brotherhood Of St. Andrew Service Day – 4/27/13

The National Brotherhood of St. Andrew has appointed April 27th as the National Service Day, when chapters nationwide are encouraged to perform a service project in their communities.

The Dallas Assembly has targeted our workday at Camp All Saints. All Chapters (Holy Nativity included) are to join there for a day of outdoor trail preparation and general make-ready for the camps summer season. Bring gloves and protective clothing and tools if available, but the camp does have most tools that would be needed.

It would be great to have a nice contingent of people from our Parish. Anyone interested in participating should contact Robby Gerber, Brian Prestemon, or John Phipps. We will need to let the camp directors know the numbers who will be attending (so they can feed us lunch) by April 15.

This is an opportunity for us to invite our neighbors, co-workers, church members and church youth to join us in this worthwhile workday.

Brotherhood of St. Andrew Meeting – 3/9/13

A good crowd was in attendance for the start of our new Brotherhood of St. Andrew Study – Kyle Idleman’s – Gods at War. Jeff Wright led the group as we discussed what our idols might be by looking at these questions:

What’s our biggest disappointment?
Where does our time & money go?
What do we worry about?
When we hurt, where do we go for comfort?
What makes us mad (angry)?
What do we dream of, or, what are we passionate about?

We looked at two passages of scripture; Judges2:11-15 and Joshua 24. We were encouraged to follow the daily sessions for lesson 1 and write in our journal as part of our study.

During our business meeting, a motion was made by Jeff Wright to support two of our own for Kairos (Tony Gerber & Ghahre Pascale). This was unanimously approved.

Our next meeting will be 4/13/13. All men are invited, both in and out of the parish.

Evangelism Committee Meeting – 03/21/13

Present were: Fr. John Kline, Fr. Garrin Dickinson, Kay Wynn, Malcolm Catter, Adrienne Leonard, and Jon Browne.

Fr. Kline began the meeting by reading Collects 81,11, and 8 from the BCP. He then prayed for wisdom and guidance..

Fr. Kline then asked us to comment from the perspective of evangelism on five “I am” statements from the Gospel of John. These are:

“I am the light of the world.” –John 8:12
“I am the good shepherd.”—John 10:11
“I am the resurrection and the life.”—John 11:25
“I am the way, the truth and the life.”—John 14:6
“I am the vine, you are the branches.”—John 15:1

A good discussion followed. Fr. Garrin commented that Colossians 1:15-20 is a fine summary of the Gospel.

Kay and Malcolm have finished a seating chart showing where members sit most often at both services. The purpose of this is provide a loose system for identifying those who are absent for, say, three weeks. Hopefully, someone who knows and, perhaps sits by the missing member(s) could contact them to tell them they are missed and ask if there as anything wrong. This program is merely “Christian caring.”

Jon updated the committee on Small Group. A new couple has been added and we hope to add more.

The subject of improving the Trumpet and Website information was discussed. We really need a communications leader or team. Some of those in charge of various ministries or functions are not faithful in providing updates. Adrienne volunteered to identify the various ministries/functions and to encourage updates.

We re-visited the question of having a coffee hour. Fr. Kline will to speak with several parishioners who have previously been involved to get their thoughts. We recognize the lack of a suitable location and the conflict with adult Sunday school.

Next meeting will be April 18.

Women’s Bible Study – Holy Week

Women’s Bible Study will not meet during Holy Week. We will resume on Thursday, April 4th, with a new 8 week study. We will be reading a book on dealing with suffering and loss titled, “Holding on to Hope” (by Nancy Guthrie) and the accompanying study on the Book of Job. Books will be available for purchase at the first meeting ($7.50).

Brotherhood of St. Andrew Meeting – 2/9/13

The Brotherhood of St. Andrew meeting was held on February 9, 2012.

Jeff Wright introduced our new study “Gods of War” by Kyle Idleman. This study is different in that there is a lot independent study and introspection through use of a log/work book as part of the study. Some discussion was had on how we would address the use of the book.

The Brotherhood continues to work towards building membership and seeks the active participation from all the men of the parish, including the Spanish congregation. We welcome all for Bible study, service and brotherhood with the othe men of the parish.

The Dallas Assembly of the Brotherhood is holding it’s quarterly meeting February 23 at St. Andrews in Farmer’s Branch.

The Super Bowl party was considered a success with 40+ people at the this year’s party.

The Brotherhood will be providing the Lenten Dinner for Friday March 8.

The next meeting of the Holy Nativity chapter of the Brotherhood of St. Andrew will be March 9, 2013.

Close to 40 parishoners and guests showed up for the Annual Brotherhood of St. Andrew Super Bowl party. Mountains of pizzas, chicken wings, beer and assorted goodies were devoured as well as lots of socializing displayed.
