Mission and
Evangelism
The people of Holy Nativity Church have a long history of meaningful
Outreach as part of parish life. We do not understand Outreach just as something we do,
but as a part of who we are as Christians. A portion of every dollar the parish receives
in offerings goes to a general outreach fund administered by elected members of the
congregation, and every member of the congregation is invited and encouraged to be a
hands-on volunteer in some ministry of Christian Service..
The crown jewel of Outreach for us is the operation of the Plano Food
Pantry. Supported by contributions of food and funds from throughout the community, the
Food Pantry assists an average of over one hundred families a month with groceries and
other basic items necessary to keep a family for ten days to two weeks. The United Way
agency, Information and referral, screens clients for the Pantry, and members of Holy
Nativity are the day to day workers who actually operate the Pantry and distribute the
food.
Other local Outreach includes a monthly meal for the residents of the
Samaritan Inn, monthly bingo parties for MHMR consumers, sponsorship of a Boy Scout troop,
regular ministry to two nursing homes, and much more. Beyond the local community, our
reaching out stretches as far as Central and Southern Africa where we support a particular
ministry of training clergy and lay leaders. Jesus tells us to feed the hungry and clothe
the naked; we invite you to share with us in living out that command at Holy Nativity
Church.
Holy Nativity has a vibrant youth program with dedicated and
enthusiastic youth leaders. The young people of Holy Nativity are greatly
encouraged to participate in the many local and diocesan opportunities for spiritual
growth and fellowship. Holy Nativity often provides generous scholarships to make it
possible for many young people to have the opportunity to be involved.
